FAQ
mHBOT
What is mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
mHBOT is a therapy that involves breathing concentrated oxygen (up to 95%) in a pressurised chamber at a gentle pressure—typically between 1.3 and 2.0 ATA (atmospheres absolute). Unlike hospital-grade HBOT, which uses higher pressures and pure oxygen, mHBOT provides a milder, safer experience.
This increase in pressure allows oxygen to dissolve more efficiently into your bloodstream and tissues, delivering it directly to your cells, organs, and even hard to reach areas of the body. The result is enhanced healing, reduced inflammation, improved energy, and better overall resilience.
What are the benefits of using mHBOT?
mHBOT has been studied for a wide range of health applications. Research and clinical experience suggest it can:
- Reduce inflammation and pain in conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic injuries.
- Support brain health, including recovery from traumatic brain injury (TBI), improved focus, and cognitive performance.
- Enhance wound healing and post-surgical recovery by stimulating collagen and new blood vessel formation.
- Boost immune function and resilience against infections. o Assist in detoxification from toxins and heavy metals.
- Improve mental health and mood, with studies showing benefits for anxiety and depression.
- Increase cellular longevity, with some studies suggesting positive effects on telomere length.
Many people also use mHBOT for general wellness, athletic recovery, and anti-aging, helping to restore energy and vitality.
Do I need to have an initial consultation if I’ve already used mHBOT before?
Yes, if it is your first time using a chamber with Breathe. you will need to have an initial orientation.
Who is it for?
mHBOT isn’t just for athletes or high performers. People come to Breathe. for many different reasons and at many different stages of life:
- Athletes and active people looking to support recovery and performance.
- Busy professionals wanting to support energy, focus and recovery from demanding weeks.
- People exploring additional recovery support following illness, surgery or injury, where appropriate.
- Women looking for additional support through the postpartum period.
- Older adults interested in supporting healthy ageing, energy and resilience.
- People managing ongoing fatigue, inflammation or other health concerns alongside their existing care.
- Anyone interested in supporting cellular energy, brain health and general wellbeing.
There isn’t one type of person mHBOT is for. Some come for recovery, some for performance, and others simply want to give their body more support as they move through everyday life.
Who cannot use mHBOT?
These conditions don’t always exclude someone, but they require medical supervision or written clearance from a GP or specialist:
- Ear or sinus infections/blocked ears - Pressure changes can cause ear or sinus barotrauma.
- Recent ear surgery or eardrum perforation - Pressure can disrupt healing or cause discomfort.
- Respiratory infections or colds - Mucus or congestion may make it hard to equalize ear pressure.
- Severe COPD or emphysema with CO₂ retention - Extra oxygen may alter breathing drive.
- Uncontrolled high fever or active infection - mHBOT can worsen discomfort until the infection is managed.
- Pregnancy - While there’s limited data on safety, it’s generally avoided as a precaution.
- Certain chemotherapy drugs (like Bleomycin, Doxorubicin, Cisplatin, or Disulfiram use) - These can interact with oxygen exposure and increase risk of toxicity.
- Seizure disorders not well controlled - Rarely, oxygen can lower seizure threshold.
- Severe claustrophobia - May make it difficult to tolerate time in the chamber.
- Recent chest or eye surgery - Pressure changes may interfere with healing (always check with surgeon).
How long is a mHBOT session?
A standard single session in the chamber is 60minutes. We allocate up to 90 minutes to include your depressurisation time.
How long Is a red light + mHBOT session?
A full body red light + mHBOT session includes 20minutes in the red light bed + 60minutes in the mHBOT chamber. We allocate up to 2 hours to include moving between the two modalities without needing to rush and depressurisation.
Does the Naturopathy come with all sessions?
A consultation with our Naturopath, Ebany, is an additional service and not included in the initial orientation. If you are interested in deep diving further into your health alongside using mHBOT, simply inform a member of our team and this will be arranged.
Full Body Red Light Bed Therapy
What are the benefits of full body red light therapy?
Full Body Red Light Therapy uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light that are absorbed by the body and interact with cells, including the mitochondria involved in producing cellular energy.
Research into red and near-infrared light has explored its role in supporting:
- Cellular energy and mitochondrial function
- Muscle recovery and physical performance
- Skin health, collagen production and rejuvenation
- Circulation and inflammatory response
- Brain health and cognitive function
- Sleep, mood and general wellbeing
The advantage of a full body bed is exposure across a much larger surface area in a single session.
And when combined with mHBOT, you’re bringing together two different inputs, light and oxygen, both used by the body in processes involved in energy, recovery and repair.
Do I need an initial orientation for the red light bed?
No you do not need an initial consult to use the red light bed.
Is it safe?
Yes. Red light therapy is non-invasive, chemical-free, and backed by scientific studies. It uses gentle, low-level light that does not burn or damage the skin.
Who should avoid red light therapy?
Avoid sessions if you are pregnant, have active cancer, or are using photosensitive medications unless cleared by your doctor.
